Stuck by Fear and Pride

Michael Beck

“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” (Proverbs 28:13)

Fear and pride bring us into a snare. To be snared is to be stuck and unable to move forward. Animals die in traps. To escape the clutches of fear, we must have a greater fear of God than we do of man. Deliverance from a spirit of fear comes when the threats of flesh and blood meet a determination to obey God, no matter the cost.

As great a snare as fear is, pride can be greater. There are those who will not budge on their stance, even on their deathbed. The need to be right is an awful taskmaster. Pride keeps us from acknowledging our wrong. Those who cover their sin cannot prosper. There is no moving forward into the beauty of a new day where there is no bowing to the conviction of the Holy Spirit. A proud heart is a hard heart – stubbornly insistent to maintain one’s dignity, even when one’s behavior has been shameful.

Every one who is born of the Spirit moves where the Spirit wills. But fear and pride prevent that movement. Would you be free to go where God wants you to go, and discover what He has next for you? Determine to be free of all fear and pride. Get unstuck.
