Poem

Where Was God?

Michael Beck Michael Beck

I waited … but You never came
I prayed … You did not answer
I sought (I thought) with all my heart
Got not what I was after
Out on a limb I dared to go
Your Word I chose to prove
Faith I had, more than a seed,
But mountains didn’t move

I do not understand, O Lord!
Why did You disappoint?
I thought I did just what You asked
But You did not anoint
And now the questions start to come
Perhaps it’s all a hoax
I feel so dumb, so high and dry
Was this just one big joke?

My child, I came, but where were you?
I spoke, you did not hear
I gave, but what I had in hand
Is not what you thought dear
My Word became a tool of yours
To get what you thought good
Your will, not Me, became your god
Demanding all you would

But I am God, and you will not
Command the morning sun
The mountains quake, the earth I shake
In world I choose to run
Be still and know that I am God
I rule above, below
And if with Me you’ll always be
You’ll let Me run the show
