Poem

The God I Need

Michael Beck Michael Beck

I need not a God who will always do “right”
Making sure life is good as it seems to my sight
I need not a God who will do what I say
Keeping pleasure at hand and pain far away
I need not a promise that things which I fear
Will never be sighted or upon me draw near
I will not demand that a God who is good
Answers my prayers as I think that He should

I worship a God who is wiser than I
Who sees what is good far beyond human eye
Who will not allow single hair on my head
To perish unless there is glory instead
So rounding the corner of future unknown
Which I cannot shape and I do not own
I glory in having, wherever life leads
A God who is with me, the God who I need
