Poem

Broken Cisterns

Michael Beck Michael Beck

“For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.” (Jeremiah 2:13)

If from man you hope to find what only God can give
In sorrow you will spend your days and never truly live
For life is found in knowing Christ and gaining day by day
New treasure that no eye can see but those who love His way
Grieve not that life has come up short or men have let you down
God Himself has set it up that nowhere else is found
The joy you want, the peace you seek, the drink to end all thirst
Let disappointment wean you from all else you would put first
