The Guidance of God

Michael Beck Michael Beck

“The meek will He guide in judgment: and the meek will He teach His way.” (Psalm 25:9)

Some believe themselves to be bold risk-takers and categorize others as timid. But for the godly there is only one rule in the doing of anything – do I have God’s green light?

There is a time to get out of the boat and walk on water – but only at the Lord’s bidding. There is a time to remain in the carpenter shop and a time to head down to the Jordan. And even then, the Spirit can turn us into the wilderness to be hidden again. There the tempter can urge us to turn stones into bread and prove ourselves by leaping from high buildings. What matters is not what we do, but who we have heard from? When our own strong desires rule, we can be led down a foolish path.

In the end, it will not have mattered whether we met with success or failure in any endeavor. Nor will it matter whether we have gained the approval or scorn of men. The only question to be answered at the judgment seat of Christ will be whether we heard from our Lord or were enticed by our own heart’s desires. Did we resist temptation or did we tempt the Lord?

We are so apt to go astray when we’re not walking softly and humbly before God. We cannot afford to get ahead of Him; nor should we lag behind Him.

When His Spirit checks your spirit – listen. Slow down at the yellow light. Stop at the red. And when He gives you the green light – go forward boldly.
