“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven … A time to love, and a time to hate” (Ecclesiastes 3:1,8)
God has made us capable of great love and great hate. Only He can direct these aright. Unless we allow Him to steer the helm of our heart we are easily shipwrecked by our own strong passions.
Never trust the movements of your heart. “He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool …” (Prov. 28:26) Just because you feel strongly about something doesn’t mean God wants you to feel that way. Jonah felt he “did well” to be angry. God not so much.
If we would worship God we must let Him control all things, even our emotions. The wind and sea obeyed Him. Should we do any less? God forbid we refuse His taming of our heart, or mistake the heat of our spirit for the leading of His Spirit. May we never love what He hates, and hate what He loves. May our hearts always be one with Him.
