Honoring the Work of the Spirit

“But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.” (1 John 2:27)

We learn of Jesus through the Holy Spirit. He takes what belongs to Christ and shows it to us. No man can call Jesus Lord except by the Holy Spirit. All who are made part of the Body of Christ are made so through the Spirit. But no man is to be our way to the Spirit. No man has been set apart to train us how to operate in the Holy Spirit. We should sit at no man’s feet in order to be schooled in the things of the Spirit. The Spirit blows where He wills. All God’s children are taught of Him.

The Holy Spirit has no need that any man should act as His mediator and tutor God’s people in the intricacies of His operation. In this New Covenant no man is to school another in the knowledge of the Lord for we shall all know Him from the least to the greatest. We do not need spiritual gurus to help us climb some mystical ladder into the higher realms of God. We have one Way and one Spirit who teaches us in that Way. By abiding in what we are taught of Him we abide in Christ.

Ministers of the Spirit point the flock to Jesus, not to themselves as the means to the Spirit. They make Jesus the focus, not what they know about the Holy Ghost. They respect the personal work of the Holy Spirit in each heart and do nothing to supplant it.
