“The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.” (Isaiah 57:1,2)
Righteous people can die earlier than expected, not because they were doing something wrong, but because the Lord who loved them wished to spare them from some trouble on the horizon. God has His reasons for things that don’t make sense to us. Job’s friends were bewildered by what happened to him. They came up with their own conclusions that were quite far from the mark.
We are all quite foolish when we think without God. Figuring things out on our own brings us on to dangerous ground. We may end up condemning the just. It really is okay to stay ignorant until God gives gives us knowledge.
Let’s not exercise ourselves in matters too high for us. (Psalm 131:1) Just because we can’t see any purpose in something doesn’t mean it’s not there. God calls us to trust Him in pitch darkness. Eventually, we will understand what God was doing – and it will be marvelous in our eyes.
