“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and they shall give great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, also the chosen.” (Matthew 24:24 YLT)
What will happen in the last days is not in doubt. Scripture plainly tells us what the end-time scenario will look like. The only thing that remains to be seen is how any one believer will respond.
Who will fall away in a day of great seduction? The answer: those who “received not the love of the truth” and “had pleasure in unrighteousness.” (2 Thes. 2:10-12) Who will stay true to their Lord? The answer: those who make their calling and election sure through “sanctification of the Spirit” and “belief of the truth.” (2 Thes. 2:13)
So you don’t think you can fall away? “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” (1 Cor. 10:12) The great and good Shepherd is well able to keep His sheep in the midst of the darkest of days. But not without their hearing and obeying His voice. “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” (John 10:27,28)
It is possible for the dog to return to his vomit; and the sow that was washed to wallow again in the mire. (2 Pet. 2:22) It is possible for those once chosen to be afterwards rejected, because they did not continue in God’s Word. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. “If” is a very big word in scripture.
“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, IF ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31,32)
